US beef market sluggish

The US imported beef market continues to be sluggish, with 90CL (chemical lean) beef price remaining unchanged on last week at 127 cents per pound (/lb). Lighter seasonal demand from end users has been matched by reduced supplies, with imported beef shipments remaining well below the same period last year.

Despite the slow market, selected beef trim prices increased on last week, with 80CL trim up 0.5 cents to 105.5US cents/lb, while 75CL jumped 1 cent, to 100.5US cents/lb.

Interest from buyers is expected to remain slow in coming weeks, with demand forecast to recover after the Easter break.
