Belgium Reports New Mad Cow Case

Belgium reported another case of mad cow disease in the country bringing to five the total number of infected animals discovered this year, the Belgian authorities announced on Wednesday.

The infected cow was born in 1996 and came from a farm near to Liege.

It was found to have had Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) after being slaughtered at a local abattoir.

Four other cows from the same herd have also tested positive for possible BSE infection and will be destroyed, the authorities added.
