US turkey eggs in incubators down 7%
As of March 1, 2013, US turkey eggs in incubators dropped 7% from a year ago to 27.1 million and declined 3% from the February 1, 2013 total of 27.9 million eggs.
This is according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
Poults hatched during February slipped 2% from 2011 to 22.6 million. Poults hatched were down 6% from the January 2013 total of 24.1 million poults, NASS reported.
Net poults placed during February declined 4% to 22 million compared to February 2012. Net placements were down 7% from the January 2013 total of 23.5 million, according to NASS.
