Michigan farmers furious at governor for "Meatout Day"
Many in the livestock industry were upset with Governor Jennifer Granholm after she declared Saturday as "Meatout Day" in Michigan.
The Governor is encouraging people to try different recipes with vegetables, fruits and whole grains, instead of eating meat.
The Michigan Farm Bureau was furious and said the idea is a slap in the face to livestock farmers and carnivores.
Farmers and beef producers said the industry is struggling with high costs and low prices as it is, and even though it is just one day, it could have damaging effects on supply and demand. The Governor has since backed away from the term "meatout" and is now proclaiming this Saturday as "Michigan Agriculture Day."
