Hong Kong bans live bird imports from affected Guangdong region

Following the confirmation of bird flu in Guangzhou, the provincial capital of China's southern Guangdong province, authorities in neighbouring Hong Kong announced on Sunday (Mar 16) that it will suspend live bird imports from the region.

According to the Hong Kong official, live birds and other related products within a 13-kilometre radius from the affected farm, which is located in Liwan district, Guangzhou, will be suspended for 21 days.

While there are no farms in the region that are licensed to supply live poultry to Hong Kong, there are two companies that supply pet birds to the territory which are located in the affected region.
