Cagle's recall poultry products suspected of adulteration
Cagle's Inc. has recalled about 943,000 pounds of fresh and frozen poultry offal and whole chickens that may be adulterated due to improper management of the offal, according to USDA.
The production plant had installed new evisceration sorting equipment in November 2007. The new equipment changed the previous practise of rejecting all offal.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service is unable to verify whether the plant had properly sorted or disposed of offal from rejected poultry carcasses, which means some of the inspected and approved products may have been mixed with offal from rejected carcasses.
The products were produced in between December 3, 2007 to March 12, 2008, and were distributed to institutions and restaurants nationwide.
There have been no reports of illness so far.
