An eFeedLink Exclusive Report
Official news reports on an urban survey conducted by China National Bureau of Statistics revealed that poultry consumption in most parts of China has emerged from the slump and has returned to normalcy. The psychological effect on the Chinese public's consumption of poultry products has petered out.
According to a China Central Television (CCTV) report, official figures have shown that consumption of poultry products in Guangdong, Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu has to date reached or even exceeded the quantity consumed in the same period last year.
Of late, daily chicken egg sales in more than 1,200 supermarkets under the Shanghai Agriculture, Industry, Commerce Group (SAICG) have tripled to 130 tons, compared with the same period in 2003.
Recently, chicken and duck sales in supermarkets in Beijing have risen more than twenty times compared to the month of February. The bullish retail market helps stimulate a rapid recovery in China¡¯s poultry product processing and breeding industries.
The report revealed that, Jiangsu, China¡¯s key province in poultry production, has to date seen a significant jump of 60% in the production of various poultry products. Prices of day-old chicks in Nantong and Xuzhou regions of Jiangsu province have improved rapidly from RMB0.30-0.60 per chick to RMB1.30 per chick.
The report cited an example of market circulation of day-old ducklings from Huaying Poultry Incubation Farm in Henan province rising from the previous week of 50,000 a day to 120,000 a day. Likewise, a growing demand for poults is also seen in other incubation farms in China.
