South Africa awaits decision on corn import tariffs

South African Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies will need to make any final decision on tariffs on corn imports to protect farmers from cheap imports.

Grain SA, a farmers' association, made presentations on the issue last week to the International Trade Administration Commission (Itac) and also met Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tina Joematt-Pettersson.

It is up to Davies to make the decision on import protection because Itac falls under his ministry, Joematt- Pettersson said.
