Finnish poultry farms hit by salmonella
Salmonella has been discovered at nine poultry farms in Finland, confirms Finnish Food Safety Authority, EVIRA.
Head of EVIRA, Kaija Varimo said the findings indicate a big epidemic.
The number of affected farms may still rise as more test results are due.
Salmonella was first discovered at three farms, but another six farms have now been confirmed as contaminated.
Most of the farms are located in south-west Finland. Some of the farms have more than 100,000 chickens. All poultry carrying salmonella will be culled.
