Finland's Atria ventures into Swedish poultry market with recent acquisition
Atria, a Finnish meat processor, has bought over Swedish group Lagerbergs as the former enters the poultry business in Sweden.
Lagerbergs is the third largest supplier of chicken in the country, with a yearly processing rate of about 10 million birds and has its own production and chicken-rearing facilities in Blkinge.
With its acquisition, Atria could see its annual sales boosted by US$33.3 million. The recent deal comes months after regulators prevented Scandi Standard's takeover of Lagerbergs over competition issues.
Problems in the Russian market affected Atria's sales as it reported close to a 25% drop in sales to US$83 million in February.
