Jakarta residents call for closure of chicken slaughterhouse

A number of residents in Pegadungan urban village, Kalideres sub-district, West Jakarta asked the local administration to close the RPA chicken slaughterhouse in the area.

Mayor of West Jakarta, Djoko Ramadhan, has signed a letter of demolition, but the chicken house still operates.

According to Nafsi, a local resident, the existence of the RPA has worried residents, because it can be the source of H5N1 virus. Previously, there have been victims attacked by the virus.

West Jakarta Head of sub-dept. for Farm, Kusdiana said that his side had done recording and investigation concerning the RPA. Besides that, it has alerted the owners about the dealing of West Jakarta Mayor to demolish the RPA.

Kusdiana said that his department only investigates the case and reports the result; while the demolition is in the authority of Local Public order police squad (Satpol PP).

However, West Jakarta Head of Satpol PP, Bobby Aryono denied that the closing and demolition of RPA in Pegadungan is in his agency authority, but the duty of West Jakarta sub-dept.
