Ukraine cattle stock drops; poultry, swine rise in March
Ukrainian farms registered an annual drop in its stock of cattle and a rise in the stocks of poultry and pigs as of March 1, 2007, data from the State Statistics Committee show.
Ukraine's stock of cattle stood at 6.395 million heads, down 5.8 percent from a year earlier.
The stock of cows went down to 3.338 million heads, from 3.635 million heads in the previous year.
At the same time, the country's pig stock went up 12.2 percent for the twelve-month period to 8.163 million head by March 1, 2007, the Committee said.
The Ukrainian farms recorded a 5.9 percent increase in poultry to 158.076 million heads, while the number of sheep and goats fell 1.7 percent to 1.767 million head for the twelve month period to March 1, 2007.
