Livestock herd in Ukraine decreases, except poultry

 

 

According to the Ukrainian State Statistics Committee, the number of cattle in all categories of Ukrainian livestock-breeding businesses as of March 1, 2005 was 7.2 million heads, which is 7.8 percent less than year ago.

 

The number of cows decreased 7.5 percent from March 1, 2004 - to 3.94 million heads.

 

The pig herd in Ukraine decreased 6.6 percent from March 1, 2004 - to 6.45 million heads.

 

The number of poultry, kept by all categories of Ukraine's poultry breeders, as of March 1 this year made 140.48 million heads, which is 9.4 percent more than the year-old figure.

 

The herd of sheep and goats as of March 1 was 1.87 million heads, 3.1 percent less than in early spring 2004.
