Dunbia to boost pork operations

In order to enhance its pig meat operations, Dunbia is considering buying a Nottinghamshire meat processor and abattoir.

G. Wood and Sons Holdings, based in Mansfield, is close to one of the most highly productive pig producing regions in the UK.

The proposed acquisition will build on Dunbia's existing pork processing business in Northern Ireland.

Importantly however, the company says G. Wood and Sons will complete its supply chain in the Midlands by integrating with Dunbia's boning operation in Crewe, and its recent multi-million pound investment in sausage processing at its Bamber Bridge, Preston site.

Dunbia Group managing director Jim Dobson said it would be a strategic acquisition and an opportunity to expand the pork division in line with customers' requirements.
