Latvia reports Swine Fever outbreak in local counties

 

 

Latvia's veterinary authorities have reported 53 fresh outbreaks of classical swine fever in the counties of Dagdas, Daugavpils, Ludzas, Zilupes, Kraslavas, and Ciblas.

 

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 5 on March 12, 2013.

 

The affected population comprises of wild boar.

 

A total of 79 cases were identified. All affected animals were destroyed.

 

The source of the Swine Fever outbreaks remains inconclusive.

 

According to the OIE, hunting and sampling of wild boar is still on-going.

 

Several control measures have been applied to contain the situation.
