Peer Foods plans to invest US$5.5 million on new Indiana facility
Peer Foods Group, Inc. intends to put up a new production facility in Cumberland, Indiana with an investment of US$5.5 million, creating up to 80 new jobs this year.
Chicago-based Peer Foods cooks, smokes and roasts pork, beef, chicken and turkey items for restaurants and foodservice. In addition to the Peer label, the company owns the Mariah brand, and in January 2013 acquired Indiana-based Emge Foods, a processed meat producer.
Peer plans a 33,000 square-foot plant in Cumberland, Ind., to add capacity for its fully cooked sausage and hot dog production lines. The new facility may be in operation as early as this summer; media reports indicate that Peer Foods already has begun hiring additional employees in Cumberland. The company already employs more than 240 full-time workers at an Indianapolis distribution facility and a production facility in Columbus, Ind.
