China imports 616,000 tonnes cotton

The February cotton imports of China increased 234% from the previous year to 616,000 tonnes, industry cotton website CNCotton reported Tuesday (Mar 13).

They were also 89% higher compared with January, the China National Cotton Reserves Corp.-owned website reported, citing data from the General Administration of Customs.

The country's January-February imports rose 64% to 942,500 tonnes, it said.

China is the world's top cotton producer, consumer and importer.
