Taiwan seafood firm launches subsidiary branch in Brunei
Hi-Q Marine Biotech International Ltd, based in Taiwan, officially launched the Brunei branch of its subsidiary company, Planet Hi-Q Marine Biotech Inc., at the commercial area in Serusop on Saturday (March 13).
According to Hi-Q Marine Biotech International chairman Johnson Chang, the aquaculture industry in Brunei Darussalam could generate an estimated US$70 million in revenue from a yield of 2,000 tonnes of high-value fish species in the next five years, making the country one of the world's main hubs for aquaculture production.
Chang lauded the estimated figures and said that initiatives like this will bring in new technologies and create employment in the country.
The company holds the master licence for the Ecological Recirculating Aquaculture System (ERAS) in Brunei. The ERAS is the only technology known so far to have the ability to create ocean ecology in the indoor pond culture and grow such high premium fish like the Red Grouper.
The company said it aims to exploit the infant aquaculture business in Brunei, especially in the field of high-value fish species using new land-based aquaculture technology that leaves a near-zero footprint of waste disposal on the environment, thereby protecting the natural ecosystem.
According to the press release, the company's strategic objective is to develop and expand the industry of modern eco-friendly aquaculture in Brunei by focussing in the production of high-value fish species such as the Red Grouper through the application of the ERAS.
