Denmark's consumers less concerned with salmonella and organic issues

A survey of Danish poultry consumers suggests whether poultry meat is tainted with salmonella or whether it is organic may not be important.

Instead, Danish poultry consumers are more concerned about price than quality, a survey by the Danish Agricultural Council (Landbrugsraadet) said.

Half the respondents felt it was important to know the country of origin for the poultry products but were less concerned about the salmonella-status of the chicken. The same proportion was also equally nonchalant about whether it is organic.

Poultry consumption in Denmark is steadily rising, and per capita consumption reached 20.4kg in 2006.

Denmark has nearly doubled its poultry imports since 2003, with market share rising from 18 percent in 2003 to 42 percent in 2006.
