Russia's meat imports more than doubled in January
Russia's meat imports more than doubled on the year in January, reaching 89,000 tonnes, the Federal Customs Service said Wednesday (March 14).
In monetary terms, meat imports rose to US $226.6 million in January from US$53.2 million in January 2006.
Meat imports from outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) were at 87,100 tonnes and were worth US$223.9 million.
Russia's poultry imports were at 67,100 tonnes in January, up from 52,300 tonnes in January 2006. In monetary terms, poultry imports were at $50.7 million, up from $32.3 million.
Russia's fish imports were at 55,900 tonnes in January, up from 38,400 tonnes in January 2006. In monetary terms, fish imports were at $91.5 million, up from $48.1 million.
In 2006, Russia's meat imports rose 3.5 percent on the year to 1.31 million tonnes, the Federal Customs Service said earlier.
