Russia Turns To Other Poultry Sources Following US Ban

Russia will allow poultry importers in the country to turn to other sources to make up for the shortfall of yearly supply quota following import bans on US poultry, the government press service said Friday.

Russia banned the import of poultry from Maryland, Texas and Delaware after cases of bird flu had been reported in the U.S. states.

Currently the Russian government issues annual import quotas with certain proportions of the imports allocated to specific countries.

This year's total poultry import quota is 1.05 million metric tons, including 771,900 tons from the U.S., 205,000 tons from the E.U., 5,000 tons from Paraguay and 68,100 tons from what is called "other countries."
