BASF announces major organisational changes within its Asia Pacific division

Press Release

BASF is solidifying its position in the Asia Pacific region, through organisational changes of its four executives.

As of April 1, 2013, Dr. Albert Heuser, current president of Market & Business Development Asia Pacific, will assume the role of president for Greater China and Functions Asia Pacific, based in Shanghai, China.

He will be responsible for BASF's Market & Business Development and Operations in Greater China as well as functional units in Asia Pacific. This organisational change underlines the strategic importance of the Chinese market for BASF as Greater China is BASF's third-largest market, with €6.7 billion sales in 2012 and over 8,400 employees.

Starting May 1, 2013, Gops Pillay, current senior vice president of Dispersions & Pigments Asia Pacific, will assume the role of president of South & East Asia, ASEAN and Australia/New Zealand, based in Hong Kong.

He will be responsible for all regional business units in Asia Pacific and countries in Asia Pacific region, outside of China. This new set-up will reduce organisational complexity; increase market share and customer focus in the Asia Pacific markets.

Heuser and Pillay will report to Dr. Martin Brudermüller, vice chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE and the Asia Pacific.

"With these changes, we are improving the efficiency of our Asia Pacific organisation to better capture the opportunities in this dynamic region," said Brudermüller, "China accounts for approximately 50% of our Asia Pacific business, and the achievements of the team during the past years have been remarkable. Moving one of our three regional top management positions to Shanghai with direct responsibility for our activities in China, will enable us to keep our growth momentum."

Starting June 1, 2013, Saori Dubourg, the current president of Regional Functions and Country Management Asia Pacific, will assume the role of president for Nutrition and Health division, based in Lampertheim, Germany.

Meanwhile, Walter Dissinger, current president of Nutrition & Health, will leave the company at his own request on May 31, 2013.
