EU broiler meat output on moderate growth
EU broiler meat production in 2012 is seen to increase on-year, albeit at a slower pace, as the difficult economic situation curbs domestic demand growth.
However, domestic consumption of broiler meat is forecast to increase this year. This is driven by a combination of term diet changes away from red meats and a sluggish economy which encourages the consumption of lower-cost poultry meat.
According to the USDA's EU-27 Poultry and Products Semi-annual 2012, the import forecast for 2012 has been raised. While broiler meat export estimates for 2012 show an apparent decline from previous estimates, this trend hides the removal of chicken paw export figures to Hong Kong and China which were included in the previous estimates.
