Iran to import wheat from US, Kazakhstan, Germany

 

 

Iran intends to buy wheat from the US, Kazakhstan and Germany next month after importing 5,200 tonnes of Kazakhstan wheat last week, the Iranian State Commercial Organization reported.

 

Ahmad Abdoust told the ILNA news agency that despite global economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic, many countries are interested in having trade relations with Iran.

 

Wheat production in Iran reached about 13.5 million tonnes in 2011 indicating no change compared to the figure for 2010.

 

According to a report released by UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Iran imported 1.3 million tonnes of wheat in the current year, which shows an increase of 100,000 tonnes compared to the figure for the previous year which was 1.2 million tonnes.

According to the report, total wheat reserves of the country dropped from 3 million tonnes in 2010 to 2.1 million tonnes in the current year.
