Vietnam's tra fish prices, profits reach record high

Vietnam's Dong Thap Department of Agriculture and Rural Development stated on March 8 that the prices of tra fish had hit record high levels over the last few weeks, fetching striking profits for fish farmers.

Seafood processing companies are purchasing the fish at VND25,000-26,000 (US$1.1-1.2) per kilogramme at present, enabling fish farms to earn profits of VND3,000-4,000 (US$0.3-US0.4) per kilo, according to the department.

It also estimated that tra fish that could be harvested now in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta could only meet 60% of the market demand.
