Swedish meat consumption climbs by 3.5%

 

 

Sweden's 2010 meat consumption rose to a 3.5% growth by 20,183 tonnes, according to figures from the Swedish statistical office (SCB).

 

The increase is almost entirely attributed to imports; imported products accounted for 50% of total beef consumption and 35% of pork consumption.

 

In 2010, pork imports increased by 9% and beef imports by 8.4%.

 

Of the total imported pork, 40% originate from Denmark, 35% from Germany.

 

Ireland is number one on beef ,accounting for 28% of the imports, followed by Germany 20%, and the Netherlands, which almost doubled exports to Sweden in 2010.
