Austria sees fall in 2007 domestic pig output
Austria's agriculture ministry expects 2007 domestic pig production to slip 0.6 percent on-year to 4.68 million tonnes.
The country's pig herd fell slightly by 0.9 percent to about 3.14 million head in December last year, compared with the same period in 2005.
Commercial pig slaughtering was up 0.8 percent on-year to about 5.28 million head in 2006, while live pig exports dropped by 3.9 percent to register 93,000 head.
Austria's pork imports totalled 1.41 million tonnes last year, down 2.2 percent from 2005. Pork exports rose 6 percent to reach 2.04 million tonnes.
In 2006, net pig production fell 0.8 percent on-year to 4.71 million head.
