Taiwan kills all chickens from H5N2 outbreak

Central Taiwan has killed all the chickens involved in the latest outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N2 avian flu, the Council of Agriculture (COA) said Saturday (Mar 10).

They also added that humans will not be affected by the epidemic, Taiwan's Official Central News Agency reported.

The poultry farms involved in the outbreak in Fangyuan, Changhua County, have all been disinfected by local authorities, Huang Kwo-ching, deputy director-general of the council's Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, said in a statement.

No H5N2 symptoms have been seen in any other chickens within a three-kilometre radius of those infected sites, the news agency reported him as saying.
