US poultry prices up 10 percent, egg prices up 30 percent in a year

US prices for chicken and eggs are on an upward trend, thus US consumers have been warned that they may have to pay more for groceries.

US retail chicken prices in January were up 10 percent from 2007, whereas US eggs have leapt more than 30 percent, according to statistics released by the Bureau of Labour.

Wholesale egg prices have also been driven up by 60 percent from a year ago.

The price increases have been linked to the skyrocketing grain prices, which causes poultry production to become much more expensive than before, which then leads to the increase in consumer prices.
