Mexico ups yellow corn import quota to 1.6 million tonnes
Mexico's Economy Ministry has raised the 2007 quota for duty-free corn imports from any country to a total 1.6 million tonnes.
The increase, published in the government's official gazette Monday (Mar 12), is the third time this year that the ministry raised the "emergency corn import quota" as it faces a shortfall in local supply.
The quota was originally set at 650,000 tonnes in January and raised to 1.3 million tonnes last month.
