Norway to assist Iceland to further develop cod farming
Iceland's fishing sector has acquired Norway's assistance to develop cod farming in a bid to increase farmed cod production.
The decision follows a cut in cod fishing quota, and the Icelandic fish industry is planning to increase cod farming production to keep up with demand, and Norway has agreed to assist Iceland to develop fish farms.
The available knowledge at hand could help Iceland to shorten the time required to establish large-scale spawn farming, said Sigurd O. Handeland, managing director of Norwegian spawn farming station Saga Fjord.
Grieg Cod Farming AS would also gladly assist Iceland, according to Baard Haugse, managing director of the Norwegian company. Haugse believes that fish farmers can learn from each other and that the company's seven years of experience gives them an advantage over others.
