Rockeby opens up bird flu test kit market in Turkey

Biomed company Rockeby has obtained registration approval from Turkey's Agricultural Ministry for its avian flu test, clearing the way to export the product there.

Turkey has been one of the European countries hardest hit by the avian flu virus, with 2.5 million birds culled last year.

An immediate order of 8000 tests would be supplied to Banvit, the industry body representing 90 per cent of Turkey's poultry industry, managing director of the company, Dr Sze-Wee Tan, said

The initial order will be followed by a bi-monthly supply of 8000 over the next year.

Banvit has the largest production capacity in Turkey, with a 240,000 birds per day capacity, the company noted.

Turkish approval is another achievement for the company, which has already concluded deals with government agencies throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Lat year, the company sold over 300,000 tests to the Romanian government, the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations, and the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture.

The company also snagged a strategic investment deal in a Chinese company, Beijing Anheal Laboratories Co Ltd.
