Canada restricts poultry products from US over bird flu concerns
Canada has imposed new restrictions on US poultry products following reports of avian influenza cases in the US.
The American states affected are Minnesota, California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
Live birds, raw poultry products and byproducts, including eggs and pet foods (sourced, processed or packaged) are not permitted into Canadian territories from those areas, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
It claimed that food safety has not been compromised.
However, live pet birds are allowed into the country if they are granted certification from the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
