Illegal antibiotics found in US-produced milk

A recent FDA report has uncovered illegal antibiotics in some milk produced by dairy farmers in the US, Time reported.

The revelation roused concerns that unauthorised drugs, which are not easily detected by routine tests, have been administered to local dairy cows. The finding is confirmed by the FDA after scrutinising close to 2,000 dairy farms, out of which, 4% were found to have use antibiotics not approved by the authority.

Currently, milk, bound for commercial sales in the US is tested for six common antibiotics. Positive results will lead to blockages of such products into supermarkets.
