US Roundtable for Sustainable Beef launched in March 2015

The US Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (USRSB) has been launched earlier this month, Environmental Leader reported. The group has 43 founding members including Tyson Foods, McDonald's, Cargill Meat Solutions, Zoetis and Elanco Animal Health.

Consisting of parties from various aspects of the US beef value chain, the USRSB's efforts will involve identification of sustainability indicators; setting up of verification methodologies; and the production of field project data to determine sustainability concepts for use in the US.

In addition, the group will create sustainability indicators based on the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef's definition for sustainability, and suited for various US beef systems. Those indicators can also help to verify sustainable progress in a transparent manner.

Membership to the group is open until June 1.
