Novus celebrates 20 years of innovation in Singapore

Given the demands of a growing population, the world will need to produce more food with fewer resources. At a customer appreciation dinner for its 20th anniversary, Novus reiterated its vision to feed the world, through innovation with integrity.

Over 70 people - including Novus's Thai customers and press members, attended the event, held at Singapore's Copthorne King's Hotel on February 27, and they were welcomed by Ted Bowman, South East Asia Pacific Director.

Bowman explained that 2011 was a milestone for Novus, being 20 years as a company. "Innovation with integrity" will serve as the theme for the company's 20th anniversary, he said.

"Innovation with integrity refers to our commitment to our clients, the industry and the environment. We seek to leverage technology and innovation to expand the capability of best agriculture to meet the world's growing demand for food," he explained. "Our motivating vision 'to help feed the world affordable, wholesome food and achieve a higher quality of life' is at the forefront of our thinking."

One way in which Novus fulfils its vision is through the establishment of a blending plant for animal feed supplements in Singapore, which opened in January 2010. The facility covers 4,000 square metres and has a production capacity of 4,400 tonnes per year.

"The facility serves as a distribution hub to better serve Novus's Asia Pacific clients in industries including poultry, pork, aquaculture and ruminants, and rapidly respond to our customers continued growth," said Plant Manager, Leow Tong Hoe.

As a customer-driven company, Novus has moved beyond methionine to provide a range of solutions for the industry. "We're a science company. Our science began with amino acids and antioxidants. Now, our contributions are many new products that solve problems for the industry - customer solutions - including MINTREX®  organic trace minerals; CIBENZA™, which is a new protease enzyme to save costs for the customer; as well as organic acid blends for aqua and animal nutrition," said Bowman.

In line with addressing customers' needs, Novus has expanded its product portfolio through the acquisition of IQF Group. "We bought a company that sells natural pigments because our customers wanted pigments. So, we are a very customer-driven company," said Bowman. "The acquisition is very significant and it will be more significant in the future. Novus can bring IQF products to the marketplace around the world. We believe we can grow IQF products larger than they previously have, to new customers and new marketplaces, including the North America."

"The future of Novus in Asia Pacific looks very positive through organic growth, acquisitions and technology partnerships. We are currently evaluating a number of such exciting opportunities to further expand our product offerings to be able to offer more solutions to better meet our customer's needs," said Bowman.
