Norway company develops new aquaculture feed
A new shrimp larvae feed has been developed by Norwegian aquaculture feed company, Blue Limit AS.
The new feed "Brilliant Blue" is a formulated supplement feed for early stage shrimp larvae. The feed is non-absorbant and does not dirty the water, according to scientists.
Shrimp fry are fed algae after hatching, but as they grow bigger, they are fed with a mixture of algae and artemia (brine shrimp).
"The company intends to replace artemia in shrimp hatcheries and where ever else our feed can be useful," said Anders Aksnes, managing director of Blue Limit and senior scientist at Nofima.
