Philippines to import Brazil's breeder buffalo to expand dairy production
The Philippine government recently announced its plans to import 1,000 to 2,000 head of breeder buffalo to boost the country's bovine inventory and increase meat output.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) is scheduled to send a team to Brazil on the second week of March to check on foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) free regions and its quarantine processes.
The country is expected to import the stocks from certified FMD-free Grande do Sul or related regions.
Philippine officials said the import of Brazilian purebred female breeder buffalo will be done before the end of 2008.
