Huon Aquaculture removes smoked salmon products from market
Huon Aquaculture is pulling out its smoked salmon products from the market after a regulating company notified the presence of a food poisoning micro-organism, listeria monocytogenes, in the batch of product.
The incident took place at Mt Barker plant where all the operations are being done through proper practices and procedures. The company has a huge market, including at Woolworths and Coles supermarkets.
With this news hitting the leading newspapers, health concerns for expecting mothers have risen as this infection can prove to be dangerous for people with weak immunity. However, Company representatives have recommended people with any light symptoms of infection to seek medical advice as a precautionary measure.
Huon Aquaculture is reportedly operating since 1987 through its two processing plants at Parramatta Creek, near Sassafras, and the salmon-smoking plant at Mt Barker. This is for the first time that Huon Aquaculture had to bear consequences of this shameful incident.
Responding to this news, Huon Aquaculture Managing Director, Peter Bender, reportedly expressed disappointment over the incident saying that it's 'not as per their standard practices and procedures'.
In the wake of rising concern over the listeria, Company has reportedly appealed all the consumers to return the product and collect complete refund.
