Bringing in more expert knowledge to the livestock sector
The 4th Pig, Poultry & Dairy Focus Asia 2010 was successfully held on March 1-3 at The Imperial Queen's Park Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, with 730 attendees from 36 countries. Co-located with it was the first Animal Health, Feed and Additives Asia or AHFA Asia 2010.
The conference was officially opened by Mr. Trisadee Chaosuancharoen, deputy director of the Department of Livestock Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative. He particularly mentioned the addition of the dairy conference to farmers and producers, the ''Dairy Focus Asia 2010.''
Chaosuancharoen pointed out how ''Asian livestock businesses play an important role in producing food to feed people around the world.'' Thus bringing the international expertise in Thailand and in effect in the whole Asian region, is a key event to develop the Asian livestock industries further.
Ladda Mongkolchaivivat, general manager of NCC Exchibition Organizer Co., Ltd., said that the three-day event was a ''superb educational forum for everyone.'' She also notes that the conference comes in a time when there is ''more need for Asian livestock to become more industrialised. Further, as more Asian countries are focusing on increasing export, the technical knowledge gained in the conference is very crucial.''
The conference for this year has been segregated into three major categories: pig, poultry and dairy and it boasts of good selection of speakers from different parts of the world and of various backgrounds such as nutrition, breeding and health management.
Mongkolchaivivat further noted that ''technical advancement and innovation solutions happen nearly everday, so it is important for everyone in the industry to keep current, or risk losing peak efficiency and productiveness. We need also to keep up with new rules and regulations. We must also monitor consumers'ever-changing demands and behavior.''
Some of the key conferences for the Pig and Poultry Focus Asia 2010 were: ''Healthy nutrition solutions for poultry'' by Peter Plumstead of Danisco Animal Nutrition, ''New developments in enzymes for poultry production'' by Christos Antipatis of DSM Nutritional Products, ''Probiotic developments in the poultry sector'' by Gino Lorenzoni of Biomin, ''Managing the modern table egg layer'' by Mickael LeHelloco of Novogen, ''New concepts in hatchery ventilation'' by David Buessing of Chick Master, ''A herbal approach for optimising profits in pig farming'' by Praful Kumar of Ayurvet Ltd., ''The 30-pig sow: Are we there yet?'' by Atruro Frio of Alltech and ''The strategic use of disinfection in pig production'' by Jim Nicol of Kilco.
The Pig and Poultry Focus Asia 2010 all in all has more than 60 presentations covering various topics on rearing, health management, innovations, etc.
For the Dairy Focus Asia, some of the conferences were: ''Benefits from breeding in the next decade'' by Frederic Grimaud of Groupe Grimaud, ''Animal health and milk quality'' by Derek Davies of Avon Dairy Solutions, ''Practical Calf rearing - professional management'' by Peter van't Veld of Denkavit and ''Ultra rapid microbial analysis for immediate release of dairy products'' by Sebastian Manuel of AES Chemunex.
For this year, there were a total of 23 presentations for the Dairy Focus Asia.
Also co-located with the conference was the Animal Health, Feed and Additives Asia or AHFA Asia 2010. The launch of AHFA is in response to rising concern over food safety and demands for better animal health and feed management.
AHFA Asia 2010 was the first dedicated showpiece for the animal health, feed and the additive business in Asia.
Mongkolchaivivat, said ''the main objective of the event is to offer trade opportunities for the animal health, feed and additives business in Asia. This sector has undergone significant growth over the past few years which are in tandem with rising concern over food safety and animal health management in Asia - these following epidemics such as bird flu and swine flu.''
This year's AHFA was well attended by pharmaceutical firms, animal health producers and suppliers, feed production technology, processing and automation, feed ingredients and animal nutrition manufacturers.
The co-location of the 4th Pig, Poultry & Dairy Focus Asia 2010 and AHFA Asia 2010 proved to be beneficial to the participants who find a common ground to interact with each other while getting more technical knowledge on their respective livestock trades.
