Ag Canada adjusts grain, oilseed supply/demand estimates down
Canadian grain and oilseed production in 2009-10 could be slightly smaller than originally thought, according to the latest supply demand tables from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's market analysis division released Friday (March 6).
Ending stocks should also tighten in both the new crop year and the current 2008-09 season.
Production of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2009-10 was forecast at 65.230 million tonnes, which compares with the previous estimate in January of 66.530 million tonnes, and the 2008-09 level of 72.635 million.
The eight major grains and oilseeds are canola, flaxseed, soy, wheat, oats, barley, corn and rye.
Total exports for 2009-10 of the eight major grains and oilseeds were pegged at 31.375 million tonnes, down slightly from the January estimate of 32.100 million tonnes. Exports in 2008-09 were forecast to come in at 32.275 million tonnes, up from the January estimate of 31.700 million tonnes.
Total domestic usage of the grains and oilseeds for the 2009-10 crop year was estimated at 38.554 million tonnes, which compares with the January estimate of 38.684 million tonnes. Domestic usage during the current crop year was forecast to come in at 38.927 million tonnes, down slightly from the January estimate of 39.267 million tonnes.
Ending stocks of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2009-10 were pegged at 12.720 million tonnes, down from the previous estimate of 14.050 million tonnes. Carryout at the end of the 2008-09 crop year was forecast at 14.465 million tonnes, down from the January estimate of 15.425 million tonnes.
