Korea Poultry Organisations Move To Increase Poultry Consumption
Five of Korea's poultry and chicken organizations have put together the compensation package in order to encourage consumption of domestic chicken products.
In the compensation package, consumers who contract bird flu after eating domestic produce will be eligible to claim a portion of a two billion Korean won (approximately A$2.18 million) compensation package.
A representative of the group said that they had taken out insurance for a year to a total of two billion won. The money will be provided to any consumers who contract avian flu due to consumption of domestic poultry for medical fees and any subsequent losses. To date there have been no cases of avian flu passing to humans in Korea.
