Chile's salmon exports have reached 65,742 tonnes in January 2013, a 17% rise in volume over the same month in 2012 when 55,795 tonnes were delivered.
However, such overseas sales generated US$296 million, which is 21% less than in the first month of 2012, when the currency reached US$360 million.
The average price had a negative variation of 31%, changing from US$6.46/kg in January 2012, to US$4.51/kg in the same month of 2013.
During the first month of the year, the main destination for salmon exports is Japan, with 30,909 tonnes worth US$115 million.
In second place was the US, with 10,478 tonnes worth US$73 million.
Asia, excluding Japan, was ranked third, with 8,782 tonnes worth US$32 million.
In January 2013, the company that recorded the highest sales was Mainstream Chile, with 7335 tonnes, which is 7% less than the previous year (7,815 tonnes). In value terms, these shipments represented US$31 million, 34% less than the income earned in the first month of 2012 (US$47 million).
In second place was Empresas AquaChile, which groups AquaChile, Salmones Chiloé, Salmones MaullÃn and Aguas Claras, with an export of 7,160 tonnes abroad, 11% less than in January 2012, when 8,000 tonnes were sent abroad. Last January, the company reported sales for US$28 million, which is 42% less than in January last year (US$48 million).
These two companies were followed by Acuinova, with 5,101 tonnes worth US$19 million; Los Fiordos, with 4,379 tonnes worth US$18 million; and Australis Mar, with 2,955 tonnes worth US$13 million.
D Trim fillets of Atlantic salmon are sold to the US in January 2012, at a drop from US$3.81 per pound to US$3.60 in the same month of 2013.
As for HG trout, it cost US$5.58 per kilogramme in January last year and during the first month of this year, it was worth US$3.49, or 37.5% less.
