Global milk prices decline

Price declines in dairy products, including skimmed milk powder, cheddar, casein and milk protein concentrate, have been revealed in the latest Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction.

Milk protein concentrate fell by 7.6%. The price drop at the auction is the third consecutive fall.

Contrary to this, fat-based products saw a price increase.

Whole milk powder fell marginally by 0.3%. Speculation had been that whole milk powder prices would drop much further, as New Zealand's milk supply influenced markets.

Fears around global finances are likely to have influenced the market place.
