Norway's February seafood exports jump 15% on-year
Norway's February seafood exports rose to a record monthly high of NOK4.8 billion (US$864.20 million), up by 15% on-year, mainly driven by high salmon prices, the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC) said Friday (Mar 4).
Rising exports of white fish, herring and mackerel also contributed to the growth, NSEC market information director Egil Ove Sundheim said.
In January and February, Norway's seafood exports climbed by 17% on-year, hitting a record NOK9 billion (US$1.62 million).
Salmon exports totalled NOK4.7 billion (US$846.19 million) in the first two months of the year, and the volume was stable at 111,000 tonnes. The price for whole salmon has risen by NOK8.60 (US$1.55) per kg to an average of NOK39.96 (US$7.19) per kg so far in 2011.
Herring exports increased by NOK203 million (US$36.55 million) to NOK1.2 billion (US$216.05 million) in January-February. Exports of mackerel went up by NOK141 million (US$25.39 million) to NOK481 million (US$86.60 million), and exports of fresh cod, including fillet, grew by 27% on the year to NOK292 million (US$52.57 million).
