China to strengthen agricultural production in 2011-15
China will support development of staple commodities including grains, cotton, oilseeds, and sugar crops in major producing areas during 2011-15 period, according to a draft of the country's 12th Five-year Plan.
This is part of the government's efforts to optimise domestic agricultural industry's layout, the document said.
The country will step up agricultural production with key grain production bases as the main players including plains in northeast China, the Yellow River and Huaihai River areas, the Yangtze River area, the Fenhe-Weihe plain, the Hetao irrigation area, south China, Gansu and Xinjiang.
