China's January cotton imports fall 17% on-year
In January, China's cotton imports totalled 326,500 tonnes, 17% lower from the same period of 2011, according to a report released by an industry website, cncotton.com.
The imports last month slumped 59% from the previous month, the report said.
The Spring Festival holiday (January 22-28) was a major factor for the drop in cotton imports as many processing mills closed businesses during the holiday, some analysts said.
The General Administration of Customs usually releases the official cotton import data around the 20th day of every month.
