China's 2011 grain output reaches 571.21 million tonnes

 

 

Last year, China's grain production increased to 571.21 million tonnes, marking the eighth consecutive annual growth.

 

The draft plan for national economic and social development delivered by the National Development and Reform Commission targets cotton output of six million tonnes for this year, and predicts that production of oilseeds, sugar crops and meat will reach 32.8 million tonnes, 126 million tonnes and 81 million tonnes respectively.

 

China produced 6.6 million tonnes of cotton in 2011, a jump of 10.7% over the previous year. The country's oilseeds output reached 32.79 million tonnes last year, up 1.5% year on year, while the production of sugar crops rose 4.3% to 125.2 million tonnes.

 

Meanwhile, the nation's s meat output in 2011 edged up 0.3% year on year to 78.03 million tonnes. Meat includes pork, beef, mutton and poultry. The pork output dipped 0.4% from the preceding year to 50.53 million tonnes.
