Brazil's Parana state yields large soy outpput

Parana, the second leading soy state in Brazil, produced a surprising soy yield this weekend. According to consulting firm Agroconsult, which is touring the country, many farms averaged between 22 and 28 60-kilogram bags per acre, as opposed to last year's average of 16 bags per acre.

Agroconsult director Andre Pessoa said the soybean varieties used combined well with the climate this year which worked out "perfectly" in everything for the soybean farmers.

Parana is still in the early stages of its harvest, and about 17 percent of Brazil's total soybean crop has been harvested. Agroconsult is currently predicting 56.7 million metric tonnes, but its final number, set to be released March 29, is expected to be higher.
