EU to see increase in oilseed output in 2013/14
Oilseeds output in the EU will rise in 2013/14, due to expansion in planting area, according to a European Commission report.
Compared to 2012/13, total oilseeds planting area will increase by 4.7% in 2013/14. Rapeseed and soybean areas in the EU-27 will rise 8.7% and 15.2% respectively, while sunflower seed area will decline by 1.8%.
Compared to 2012/13, total oilseed output in 2013/14 will increase 8.3% to 29.4 million tonnes, including 20.5 million tonnes of rapeseed (6%), 7.6 million tonnes of sunflowerseed (12.1%) and 1.2 million tonnes of soybeans (21.5%).
For 2013/14 season, rapeseed production will increase 13% in Germany and Poland, and 4% in the Czech Republic, but will decline 6% in France and the UK. Sunflower seed output is expected to increase in all major producers: 23% in Romania, 5% in Bulgaria and Hungary, 1% in France, and 30% in Spain.
